![]() Introduction to Role fighting
![]() Ok first off I'll start by saying thank you for taking the time to look this section over. The first lesson is just a general idea of what role fighting is to me and how I came about it.
Role fighting is a interesting and enjoyable thing for some people. It's more or less a way to express your imagination against another person as if you were really fighting. But where it comes into something fun is when you define who you are as a fighter. What skills you will use. What powers you will use, and what kind of past does your fighter have. I'll explain more about that later.
I don't know when role fighting was first started really. The place I learned about it is at the chat room of Animeigo in early 97'. At first I just watched the people fight and spar in the Jurai Arena, and as time went on I started playing around with the handle I was. Tenko Masaki, I kinda took the name from Tenchi Universe, yet that's where it stops. With the name and general idea I created a guy that was the son of Tenchi and Ryoko. He had the ability to use Jurai Energy like Tenchi and Yosho. Yet also had the ability's of his mother Ryoko.
So I practiced allot of things and learned how to use him with the training from other people like SAL, 18, Aijin, Hoshi, and many other fighters. Over time I got used to changing him around, my ability to write improved and I changed Tenko's style around. Now he can control energy, but he don't use or really have any of Ryoko's ability's anymore. He uses a sword and practices with a few different styles.
With the fan fic's I wrote I had Tenko's background set. He met allot of anime people in his adventure's in fan fic land and he even to this day works with Seijuro Hiko from Kenshin, and Vash the Stampede from Trigun in the fan fic's I write.
There is no real winner or loser in a fight, it's more or less when either a judge, or the other fighter call's the match. Right now there is two main styles.
1) Chat room role fighting: This is the old style and still loved by many, it requires you to think on the spot and try to type your defense and counter on the spot. Some fights last an hour, I've seen a few last 8 hours. Just depends how you feel. Plus there is a posting limit in Animeigo at least of 600 characters a post. So you have to put (con't) at the end of your post if it goes over 600.
2)Ezboard role fighting: This is the new fashion of role fighting that's going around. I endorse this one more cause there is no post limit, you can take your time to reply, and you can even add some role-playing into the post to make it seem more like a story than a fight. Major downside to this though is a match can take weeks to finish cause people might post once a day, or once every other day. Yet if you work, and you still want to role fight and don't have 8 hours to spend in a chat. Ezboard fighting is the way to go.
Just go out, watch a few matches. Find someone you liked watching and ask them to show you a few things. Or ask if they will spar with you so you can learn the basics and end time you might even beat the people you thought were the best when you first started.
So what this lesson was to show you is that, role fighting has been around for awhile, everyone has different styles and you will lose while you learn. But once you get into it, it's hard to go back and say you never want to do it again. So if you want to know more, please go on to Lesson 2-Styles.
